Uncommon Foods That Are Damaging Your Teeth

Uncommon Foods That Are Damaging Your TeethBrushing your teeth twice per day and maintaining a healthy diet plan will promote your overall wellness. However, did you know that there are foods that could be doing more harm than good to your teeth?

Yes, some foods are considered healthy, but they can have detrimental effects on your dental health. Here are three uncommon foods that could be damaging your teeth.

Sticky Foods

Most people opt for dried fruits when shopping for healthy snacks at the store. Since most of them are sticky, they can compromise your dental health, as they tend to stick on the surface of the teeth and in the cavities longer than other types of food. Make sure that you rinse your mouth with water after eating them or brush your teeth a half hour later to get rid of the plaque.

Crunchy Snacks

There are hundreds, if not thousands of crunchy snacks made from potatoes in stores today. Even though some of them are nutritious, they can cause harm to your teeth as they are packed with starch. A significant portion of the starch is often trapped between your teeth, which can then break down into sugar. If you have to eat these snacks, make sure that you floss your teeth completely to remove all the food particles to prevent the buildup of plaque.

Peanut Butter

Just like dried fruits, peanut butter is sticky, and one of the ingredients used to make it is sugar. Excessive consumption of peanut butter increases the risk and rate of tooth decay. Note that even all natural or organic types of peanut butter contain natural sugar or unprocessed sugar that encourages the buildup of plaque and bacteria inside your mouth. Stay safe by opting for peanut butter that has no added sugar.

Avoid these foods to cushion yourself from dental complications. Get in touch with us for a comprehensive dental checkup and professional advice on how to promote your dental health.
