Sports Drinks Can Be Dangerous for Your Oral Health

Posted on 3/15/2019 by College Hill Dental
Sports Drinks Can Be Dangerous for Your Oral HealthThere used to be a time where everyone walked around carrying their favorite sports drinks. They were all the rage and everyone had one. Thankfully, those days are gone. While they do have their uses, they are often drunk for the wrong reasons.

Sports drinks are very high in acid, and can do a lot of damage to your teeth if you drink them regularly. The acid from those drinks can erode the enamel from your teeth and leave you with pain all around your mouth.

What to Do if Sports Drinks Are a Regular Part of Your Daily Diet

If you regularly consume sports drinks, then it is important to make sure to be extra careful with your teeth. It does not take long for the acid in sports drinks to cause irreparable damage to your teeth. The best thing you can do if you must consume sports drinks is to chase each sip with one of water.

Plus, you need to make sure you are brushing twice daily without fail. We may also be able to put sealants on your teeth to help keep them from getting damaged.

For those who simply like to drink them as opposed to must have electrolytes like you find in sports drinks, you may want to find a new favorite beverage. There are some amazing benefits to increasing how much water you drink or drinking coconut water at least part of the time. They help improve your oral health instead of damaging it.

If you have been drinking a lot of sports drinks for an extended period of time, give our office a call. Let us know what has been going on so we can set an appointment to look over your mouth. If there are problems from the acid, now is the time to manage those issues instead of letting them get worse.
