Benefits That Come from Soft Tissue Grafts
Soft tissue grafts are necessary when the root of the tooth gets exposed due to receding gums, making it more vulnerable to decay. Gum recession can happen for a variety of reasons, including, periodontal disease, age, trauma, and brushing too harshly, among other things.

What is a Soft Tissue Graft?

If the root of the tooth is exposed, there can be sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures. This condition can also cause a person to become self-conscious and avoid smiling or talking from embarrassment. Soft tissue grafts consist of taking tissue from one part of the mouth and placing it over the affected tooth.

The tissue needed to cover the teeth that are exposed can come from the roof of the mouth, depending on how large or small the area that will receive treatment is. Also, we can take tissue from an adjacent tooth and share it to correct the problem.

Benefits from Soft Tissue Grafts

One of the immediate benefits of soft tissue grafting is reduced teeth sensitivity. Once the gum tissue heals, you will be able to eat hot or cold foods with no or little discomfort. If the gum recession were visible when eating or speaking, the surgery would improve the look of your smile and you will able to interact with others more comfortably.

Also, this procedure can improve gum health because it will stop tissue and bone loss due to gum disease. It is essential you also get deep cleanings to maximize the benefits of soft tissue grafts. This surgery is performed under local anesthesia, and the recovery will depend on the size of the area treated.

If you have any questions about the benefits that come from soft tissue grafts, we will be happy to answer them during your consultation or over the phone.
