|Many of us brush our teeth after each meal. That is three times a day. That means that there will be hours that will pass where you will not brush your teeth.
During that time, there is a good chance that you will eat or drink something. Here are some steps that you can take to keep your teeth feeling clean in between brushings.
There are some snacks that can help to clean your teeth. An apple tastes great, and it will also clean your teeth. Celery and carrots do the same thing. There are also many snacks that you will want to stay away from if you cannot brush your teeth for a while. Avoid snacks that coat your teeth like caramel. You will also want to stay away from snacks that are high in sugar.
The best thing that you can drink in between meals is water. It will rinse off your teeth, and you will not be adding anything else to what is already in your mouth. If you would prefer to have a drink such as soda, remember that it is most likely high in sugar. Plan to rinse your mouth with water after you finish your soda.
Chewing a piece of gum has several benefits for your oral health. It will get rid of food that you have yet to brush away. It will produce saliva. It will also help with bad breath. Make sure that the gum that you chew is sugarless.
While brushing after you eat is desirable, it is not always possible. These things can help. If you would like to learn more ways to keep your teeth clean between brushings, talk to us about it when you come in for your next appointment.
